Funny how arrogant some people can be when they dont realize the falsehoods they're spitting out. For you to say that the english language originated in the UK, you may as well say that you invented the cow, taught the french to make bread, invented the atomic bomb, and built the empire state building. It's as false as you can get. See, you have to understand, we dont know what the original language was, but, as time progressed, that language broke into dialects, which evolved into their own "languages". Technically, every language on earth is simply a long removed dialect of some ancient dead language. Doing a basic phonetic trace, the "english language" is a dialect comprised of Latin, Cryllic, Arabic, most of the earlier eurpoean languages, as well as some influence from asian and indian cultures. Each of these languages translates further back, e.g. Latin being derived from greek and arabic influences on sanskrit, which in turn was derived from a dialect of aramaic, which evolved from early spoken translations of cuneiform writings. So anyone trying to defend british english as being proper, perhaps you should take a course in linguistics, then build a time machine and go visit the romans to see how they would feel about you butchering THEIR language to shape your own. Language belongs to noone of our era, as it was all stolen and created on the backs of earlier languages. The reason Americanized English is used is twofold and both reasons have already been stated. Windows defaults the language to americanized english. Seeing as this is the main platform for Eve, it makes sense. Second, americanized english is generally what is traditionally taught to people who don't speak it as their primary language. Also, there are some very strange idiomatic discrepencies in british english that most people wouldnt get unless they spent time over there, such as the two uses of "bollo*ks". In use alone, as an exclamation or statement without preposition, it's derogatory or negative in connotation. However, when you say something is "the dog's bollo*ks", it means that it's fashionable, desirable, or cool. Thats a tough transition for someone who isnt a primary speaker to understand. Also, as I believe it was DS who pointed out that americanized english is a business language. The sheer volume of free enterprise business travel to foreign nations from the US vs from the UK makes it much more of a standard practice for foreign speakers to learn americanized english as a business dialect, the same way that americans will learn the business language of their foreign counterparts in many cases. I think that makes a pretty good case. Besides, after three years of being online, as well as the fact that the american population base is steadily increasing, you really think CCP is going to completely overhaul the game? Nope. Sorry. _______________________ Sig must be under 24000 bytes - Cathath ([email protected]) |
